Dear Families:
Welcome to the new school year at Maud Abrams School. We are confident that 2009-2010 will be memorable. Hopefully, the students enjoyed their summer reading assignment and are ready to share what they learned with their new teachers and classmates. Classes will be reviewing these materials as part of the first marking period literacy grade.
Following are a few reminders that will help make the year more positive for you and your child:
Arrival and Dismissal:
Our school day begins promptly at 8:25. If you choose to transport your child, you should arrive at the student drop off area between 8:15 and 8:20. Staff members will assist your child to exit your vehicle and insure safe crossing to the front doors.
If your child arrives after the opening time, then s/he will be considered tardy. Children who arrive late not only miss valuable instructional time themselves, but they interrupt instruction for their class. Please try to insure that your child is on time. When delivering your tardy child, you must park in the school lot and escort your child into the building. Parking in the fire zone in front of the building is prohibited.
Our school day ends at 2:25. If you intend to pick-up your child, the office must receive the notice in writing before 10:00. Remember that every minute of the school day counts so students who leave early also miss valuable learning. Please bring ID if you are signing your child out of school. This district policy is meant to insure the safety and security of your child.
Back to School Night:
Maud Abrams Back to School Night is scheduled for Wednesday evening, September 16th. Check your child’s Thursday Home Communications Folder for the school calendar and the Back to School Night notice that detail the times for each grade.
Social Skills/Conduct:
Your children will continue to receive instruction in the social skills program, Second Step: A Violence Prevention Curriculum. The lessons teach students empathy, impulse control and problem solving, and anger management. You will learn more about this program at Back to School Night and we will be asking for your assistance in practicing the lesson goals with your children. Note that our Behavior Code appears in the Parent Communication Folder.
We anticipate another exciting and learning-filled year at Maud Abrams. We welcome your input and look forward to working with you to insure that your child has a positive and successful school year. Remember to check the district website http://www.lowertwpschools.com for announcements and events.
